What We Buy

Scrap Gold We Buy

Broken, damaged, dental, and unhallmarked gold — all priced by weight and carat against the live spot rate.

Broken Chains & Necklaces

Broken Chains & Necklaces

Snapped curb chains, tangled ropes, and clasps that have given up. We pay on the gold weight, not the repair cost.

Single & Odd Earrings

Single & Odd Earrings

Lost the other half of a pair? A single gold stud or hoop is still scrap gold worth weighing and selling.

Dental Gold

Dental Gold

Old crowns, bridges, and gold inlays. We test for the alloy content and pay for the recoverable gold within.

Bent & Damaged Rings

Bent & Damaged Rings

Misshapen bands, snapped shanks, and rings cut off in A&E. Condition is irrelevant — only the carat and weight matter.

Unhallmarked Scrap

Unhallmarked Scrap

No hallmark? We acid-test or XRF-scan each piece on the spot to confirm its true carat before pricing.

Worn & Part-Pieces

Worn & Part-Pieces

Half-melted findings, broken brooch backs, watch-case fragments, and odds and ends from the bottom of the jewellery box.

Selling Scrap Gold: Priced by the Gram, Not the Look

Scrap gold is any gold sold for its metal content rather than as a finished, wearable piece — broken chains, single earrings, snapped rings, dental gold, and unhallmarked oddments. Unlike a wearable ring or a branded watch, scrap carries no premium for style, condition, or maker. Its value comes from one thing: how much pure gold it contains. That makes scrap one of the simplest, most transparent things you can sell, because the price is set by weight, carat, and the live spot rate — not by negotiation over how it looks.

This page is for the bits and pieces most people overlook. If you have a complete, wearable item you want to sell on its own merits, our main gold-buying service covers rings, watches, sovereigns, and bullion. But if what you actually have is a drawer of broken, mismatched, and damaged gold, this is exactly the service you want — and you will often be surprised how much that "junk" adds up to once it is on the scales.

How Scrap Gold Is Priced

Every gram of gold has a value tied to the live London bullion price, adjusted for the carat of each individual piece. When our valuer visits, the process is the same every time:

  1. Sort by carat. We separate 9ct, 14ct, 18ct, and 22ct pieces, because each is a different proportion of pure gold and therefore a different price per gram.
  2. Weigh on certified scales. Each carat group is weighed individually in front of you on calibrated, traceable scales.
  3. Apply the live rate. We work from the current spot price at the moment of valuation, so the offer reflects what the metal is genuinely worth that day.

Because the gold price moves throughout the trading day, the figure we give is a live one. There is no obligation to accept.

Testing: Hallmarks, Acid, and XRF

Plenty of scrap gold has no hallmark — old foreign pieces, worn stamps, fragments, and dental gold rarely carry a clear UK mark. Rather than guess, we test. Hallmarked items are confirmed against the stamp; everything else is acid-tested or scanned with an XRF analyser that reads the exact metal composition without cutting or damaging the piece. This protects you as much as us: it means a piece that looks like low-carat scrap but is actually high-carat gold gets paid at its true rate, and gold-plated base metal is identified honestly rather than paid for as solid.

Broken, Dental, and Damaged — All Welcome

The cosmetic state of scrap gold makes no difference to its value. We regularly buy snapped chains, bent and cut-off rings, single earrings that lost their partner, broken brooch fittings, and half-melted findings. We also accept dental gold — crowns, bridges, and inlays — where the recoverable gold within the alloy is tested and priced. Nothing is too small or too damaged; if it contains gold, it is worth weighing.
